Adult Secondary Graduation Program

This program for adults includes academic courses that lead to BC Secondary Graduation. There are Foundation Language Arts (FLA) and Grades 10-12 courses.  Students who have completed their secondary education may also take these courses to upgrade their Transcript of Grades.  Our courses are taught through a combination of in-person and online instruction (through Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other online platforms e.g. Moodle).  Students are required to be physically present in British Columbia for the duration of the course and must be available to attend both in-person and online classes.  An absence of more than 5 classes may result in a withdrawal.

  •  course fee ($550) applies for graduated adults

COURSE FEES

$0 tuition - for Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents and Refugees in B.C. who have not yet graduated from high school anywhere in the world, our courses are tuition-free.

For students who have graduated from high school and wish to take our courses, please see below for a list of tuition-free courses for graduated adults.  To register for courses not listed below, graduated adults must pay $550 per course. 

$1,500 per course - for international students with a valid B.C. study permit.

DO YOU NEED AN ENGLISH ASSESSMENT BEFORE TAKING A FOUNDATION LANGUAGE ARTS OR ENGLISH COURSE WITH US?

YES, you will need to take an English assessment if

(1) this is your first time taking an English course with us and you have not completed English 10 in Canada; OR

(2) it has been more than two years since you last took a Foundations Language Arts (FLA) course with us, you must take the English assessment. 

Please note that an English assessment is now required for all new students who wish to register for a Foundation Language Arts course, including Introductory level.

There is a non-refundable $40 assessment fee payable by VISA, AMEX or MasterCard.

Assessments are taken in person at Adult Education Centre is located at 12091 Cambie Road, Richmond (at No 5 Road).

The English Assessment is done on a computer and is made up of 4 parts:  Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension and Writing.  Students have two hours to complete the assessment.  Assessment results will be available by email within a week of the date of assessment and are valid for one year.

IMPORTANT

To complete the registration process, students are required to email copies of the following REQUIRED DOCUMENTS to gginn@sd38.bc.ca

Proof of status in Canada (ONE of the following):

  • Canadian Birth Certificate or Passport;
  • Canadian Permanent Resident Card or Citizenship Card;
  • Refugee Document;
  • Valid Study Permit;
  • First Nations Status Card.

PLUS Proof of residency in B.C. (TWO of the following):

  • BC Driver Licence;
  • BC Medical/Services Card;
  • BCID Card;
  • Property tax statement;
  • Utility bill;
  • Rental Agreement;
  • Bank or payroll statement;
  • Income tax statement.

Academic Records (ONE of the following):

  • Transcript of Grades;
  • Permanent Student Record or latest report card;
  • Letter of Permission from school administration (current secondary school students).

 

BC TRANSCRIPT of GRADES

Students who have completed secondary credit courses in BC may order their BC Transcript of Grades directly from the BC Ministry of Education using the link below.  You will need to enter your legal first and legal last name and your Personal Education Number (PEN).

If you last attended school in Richmond School District, you may also apply for a transcript in-person by attending our Richmond School Board office at 7811 Granville Avenue, Richmond.  A nominal fee is charged for each transcript and it takes about 1-2 business days to process.
